Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ - Nepal Tour

When is the best time to do the Cultural Nepal tour?

There are two preferred seasons for the Nepal Tours: Spring (March through May) and Fall (October through December). Day time temperatures in Kathmandu and Pokhara range in the 80’s and 90’s (20 to 30 Centigrade) while night-time temperatures are around the 50’s (5 to 10 Centigrade). Expect some late-afternoon showers in the Spring which is the season for rhododendrons and magnolias. October is historically regarded as the best month to trek with clear skies and better views of the mountains.

We also highly encourage you to visit in the winter months of December, January and February when days can be quite sunny and warm (40F to 60F – 5 to 10 Centigrade) although you should expect temperatures around freezing on most nights in January.

How fit do I need to be to participate on this trip?

Since you will be exploring the sites on foot, you will be required to walk 100 yards or so at a time. Sometimes you might be required to climb a flight of stairs. There are plenty of spots to sit and rest. So a little fitness is required for participation. You can always expect help when needed.

What kind of food can I expect on this trip?

Besides a selection of good sea-food (Nepal is landlocked), you can expect any kind of food in Kathmandu and Pokhara. You get to order from a menu. At Chitwan, you would be eating from a buffet so you don’t have a choice but the selection is varied. We will cater to those with gluten and other food allergy.

Can I drink tap water?

Nepali tap water is NOT safe to drink. Even if you see the locals drinking water straight from the tap, never drink water before boiling or sterilizing. Bring water purifying tablets or other water purifiers. If you plan to use a STERIPEN, bring wide mouth water bottles.

Crystal Mountain Treks will provide you with a Steripen to use on the trip for no charge if you require one. Just let us know.

Is there mobile signal on the trip? Wi-fi?

Yes, you could use your mobile phone in Kathmandu, Chitwan and Pokhara. There is also 4G service available. And wi-fi will be available free of charge at the hotels and restaurants.

Are there ATM's available? Can I use credit card?

Yes, ATM’s are available in Kathmandu and Pokhara. Since your lodge in Chitwan is away from town, plan on having some cash reserve for that portion of your trip.

Yes, all major credit cards are accepted in Nepal. There might be a 3-4% surcharge.

What vaccinations are required for travel to Nepal?

No vaccinations are REQUIRED. There are some that are recommended. Check out websites of the following for immunization that are recommended:

1) CIWEC hospital in Nepal

2) CDC (Center for Disease Control)

What are the toilet facilities like?

Most hotels and restaurants have Western style toilets. Some might have squat toilets but that is rare in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

Our trip organized to Bhutan and Nepal with Grand Asian Journeys was so perfect. As my daughter and I needed someone to plan the details and create the perfect itinerary to meet both of our needs (I’m 88) it was a relief to depend wholly on Pam’s expertise. Every step of the way was carefully organized and well executed. We had a flawless journey and the trip of a lifetime!
