Bhutan will start welcoming tourists again after September 23. After remaining shut for two years during the pandemic, travelers will now be allowed to travel to Bhutan with a test at the Paro airport. They will be under observation for 24 hours until their test results are available.
But the opening will come with a drastically increased Sustainable Development fee (SDF) from US$65 per person per night to US$200 per night. This is in line with their tourism strategy of High Value, Low Volume tourism. This increased fee will go towards activities that promote carbon neutral tourism.
315,000 travelers had visited Bhutan in 2019.
