USA citizens will now receive a 5-year multiple entry visa into Nepal. Americans can spend a maximum of 180 days (per year) in Nepal. This step was taken in response to the US government’s demand for a reciprocal visa regime. Nepalis traveling to the US on a tourist visa have been receiving a 5-year multiple entry visa.
Americans (and travelers from most other countries) currently pay $22 for 15-day visa, $40 for 30 days and $100 for 90 days of stay in Nepal as tourists. Tourists who stay more than 90 days in Nepal pay $2 for each extra day. It is not clear whether Americans who wish to visit only once can continue with these options or if they would be required to pay the $160 fee for a multiple entry visa. We will update this blog once this information is available.
The new rule comes into effect after January 1, 2019. From then both Nepali and US citizens will have to pay $160 for five-year tourist visa. Nepalis had been paying $100 for the visa.
